Reiach & Hall architect with Speirs Major Lighting architects.

The skies of Scotland are not noted to be the bluest. So how do you warm daylight when it’s grey and miserable outside? Speirs Major are lighting architects, not only designing artificial light but also daylight. The idea was to reflect warm light into the space from the courtyards. Together, Speirs Major, Reiach & Hall and John Dunbar Roake developed light catchers using super-mirror gold coloured stainless steel reflectors to bounce light into the interior. These are suspended in the courtyards with a similar pattern of perforations to the exterior boundary Petersen bricks walls. Simple elegant sculptural elements using no energy to make the internal spaces more welcoming to the clients using the Maggies Centre.
