Heart of Glass
The Magic of the furnace
From simple ingredients, effectively sand, soda, and fire , glass is born. The heat is intense as the mix is fired to a thousand degrees to create this magic fluid, which is blown, gulled manipulated into amazing forms that can last for millennium or disintegrate into tiny fragments in milliseconds.
But it’s the skill of the Meastro that makes the difference between banal objects to the most exquisite delicate colourful forms. This has been a lifelong fascination and I have been fortunate to meet and work with the best of Murano the cradle of the modern Studio Glass movement that was born in Seattle and America.
Images of the fornace of Nason Moretti, the fire, intense heat where delicate, transparent, and beautiful objects are made. there are pieces that do not come out right as every piece is made by hand. Sometimes the little imperfections tell a bigger story than the perfect ones. This is a snapshot of one day at the fornace, the other side of the images of the production.
